Dealing with a drought takes on a different meaning in the desert

Here in the Valley of the Sun, as in the rest of the country, a drought is in full swing. Unlike the rest of the country, though, water is never in abundance here. It IS a desert, after all.

So how does a desert area cope with the effects of a drought? The Arizona Republic has done a special report examining the many facets of the impact of a drought on an area that already suffers from a shortage of water. Like most parts of the country, the Phoenix area has to deal with increased fire danger and sometimes oppressive water conservation measures. Imagine also having to deal with things like overly aggressive Africanized bees, snakes searching for water, and the spread of rabies. Things could be worse where you are....
