A woman in Lake Buena Vista, FL, died of an apparent seizure during a promotion at a minor league baseball game.
Victoria Lampe, 28, was one of about 250 women and girls who took part in the promotion after Friday night's game between the Orlando Rays and Jacksonville Suns.
The object of the promotion is for the women to run from the outfield wall to the infield and search through the infield dirt for a small box containing a diamond, according to Rick Vaughn, public relations vice president for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, parent of the Orlando team.
Lampe appeared to suffer a seizure in the infield of the Disney's Wide World of Sports stadium, according to Bo Jones, a spokesman for Reedy Creek Fire Department.
The Orlando woman was not breathing and had no pulse when paramedics arrived, Jones said Saturday. She was taken to Celebration Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is investigating, although no foul play is suspected, said Carol Garcia, a sheriff's spokeswoman.
"Just as she got to the infield, she collapsed face first," Vaughn said. "It's a terrible, tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family."
I smell a lawsuit....
