You've just been carted off the field, immobilized and strapped to a back board. You had no feelings in your extremities. What are you going to do?. Well, if you're Leomont Evan, you're going to try and play football again. Say what??
Houston Texans safety Leomont Evans was back in Texas on Wednesday, walking and hoping a collision that bruised his spinal cord in the Hall of Fame game in Ohio Monday night won't end his career.
"I'm definitely trying to play again,'' Evans told Houston television station KRIV on Wednesday shortly after returning to Houston from Canton, Ohio. "We've got some more tests to run. We're going to try to be smart about this thing.''
Evans was released from an Ohio hospital Wednesday morning....
"It was real scary. You're laying down. You're half-seeing things. You can't move,'' Evans told the television station. "I'm blessed to come out of that situation the way I did. I know I had a lot of people praying for me.''
Evans said he has come a long way from Monday evening and he is "feeling pretty good.'' Doctors expect him to begin rehabilitation this week.
I'm sorry; you've just been handed the equivalent of a "get out of jail free" card, Leo. You are one LUCKY cowboy. Why would you want to tempt fate? You're going to be able to walk, and if all goes well there should be no long-term effects from the injury. There's no guarantee that you'd have the same luck with a similar injury the second time around. Perhaps finding another line of work might be in order....
