Well, at the moment, not much. There's a lot of wind, and some intermittent heavy rain, but so far this has been a bit of a disappointment. Fay apparently is a fickle wench, and she doesn't seem to want to put out just yet. To look outside, you'd almost not know that anything was up, except for the high water and the wind.
When last I heard a weather report, it said that Fay should make landfall about 1pm tomorrow. The center of the storm is supposed to head into Matagorda County to our southeast, but the means we're on the "dirty" side of the storm, the northwest quadrant where most of the heavy rain is located. Lucky us....
If nothing else, this means I can probably get a decent night's sleep without wondering what's going to happen. It would be nice to be able to stop worrying for at least a little while.
I hope that none of this sounds melodramatic. It's difficult not to fear a tropical storm, simply because of what it is capable of. If we get lucky, not much happens, and we feel silly for being so concerned. Anyone who has been through one of these storms knows better than to be nonchalant, and it's not a mistake I'm about to make.
