McDonald's To Cook With Healthier Oil
Well, I know that when I take my 15-year-old stepson to McDonald's for his favorite meal (#3, mustard & cheese only, Coke), the first thing I hear him whining about is: "You know, I'm really rather concerned about those trans-fatty acids". I don't eat at McDonald's (short version: the food sucks), but the people who do generally aren't counting fat grams. That's why I find this so humorous:
Criticized by some nutrition experts for contributing to a surge in obesity in the United States, McDonald's Corp., said it will begin cooking its fries--as well as its Chicken McNuggets, Filet-O-Fish, hash browns, and crispy chicken sandwiches--in a new oil that reduces trans-fatty acids by 48% and saturated fat by 16%.
Of course, if these folks really are "nutrition experts", they wouldn't be found dead at a McDonald's. I suspect that the "experts" McDonald's is trying to cater to are the ones bellying up to the counter with money in their hands and their eyes on the menu.
