Sometimes it's better to be thought a fool than to be Dick Armey

Armey draws heat for comments about Jews. Lawmakers call remarks 'absolutely breathtaking in their ignorance'.

Let me start this one off by just coming right out and stating the obvious: Dick Armey is a #$*&(@+ idiot. There...thanks, I feel much better now. Armey, perhaps best known for his "Barney Fag" characterization of Massacusetts Rep. Barney Frank has expanded his repertoire to take on Jews.

"I always see two Jewish communities in America," Armey was quoted as saying: "One of deep intellect and one of shallow, superficial intellect." He said conservatives have a deeper intellect and "occupations of the brain" like engineering, science and economics.

He said liberals work in "occupations of the heart," which he said were those in the arts.

Armey, who has strong pro-Israel political views, defended his comments today in a Washington news conference, saying they apply to all liberals.

"Liberals are in my estimation just not bright people. They don't think deeply; they don't comprehend; they don't understand. ... They have a narrow educational base, as opposed to the hard scientists," Armey said.

Armey is a former economics professor at the University of North Texas in Denton, near Dallas.

Armey said no one in the room was offended, adding that the criticism was prompted by Democrats' loss of Jewish voters to the Republican Party.

"If you were a southern, Anglo, Baptist liberal, I promise you, I would say you are not well-educated and probably not a great deep thinker, because that's what liberals are," Armey said. "I have not been impressed with the intellect of the left since I was a freshman in college."

Clearly, the intellect of the Far Right leaves something to be desired as well. As least we Liberals don't run around gratuitously insulting entire ethnic groups. Of course, rather than ranting at Armey's lunacy, let me just turn it around on him:

"I always see two Republican communities in America," Jack was quoted as saying: "One of mean-spirited ignorance and one of shallow, superficial cow-like intellect." He said conservatives have a shallower intellect and "occupations of the political animal" like spin control, propaganda generation, and demonizing those who actually think before reacting.

He said moderates work in "occupations of the heart," which he said were those in mid-level management at Wal-Mart.

Jack, who espouses fairly tolerant political views, defended his comments today in a Washington news conference, saying they apply to all Republicans.

"Republicans are in my estimation just not bright people. They react viscerally; they don't examine the facts; they follow their leadership with cow-like loyalty. ... They have a narrow educational base, as opposed to more intellectually agile Liberals," Jack said.

Jack is a former soccer player at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.

Jack said no one in the room was offended, because frankly everyone was asleep.

"If you were a one-armed gay Atheist Republican, I promise you, I would say you are not well-educated and probably not a great deep thinker, because that's what one-armed gay Atheist Republicans are," Armey said. "I have not been impressed with the intellect of the Right since I was a freshman in college."

Pretty absurd, eh? Or not. If you're Dick Armey, it's time to go- and please, take your comrade in idiocy, Tom DeLay, with you....
