They were too busy for "Celebrity Death Match"

MatissePicasso

In the right corner, Henri Matisse: "Picasso sees everything."

In the left corner, Pablo Picasso: "When Matisse died he left his odalisques to me as a legacy."

Initially rivals, each eventually felt the influence of the other. This site features side-by-side comparisons of six sets of paintings, as well as a chronology of their interactions from their first meeting in the winter of 1905-06 to Matisse's death in 1954.

This is a fascinating look at two of the most important artists of the 20th century- and it's also a show at New Yorks' MOMA through 5.20.03.
