Day 3 on the Campaign Trail

Sanchez chips in $59.5 million: 4th-costliest self-financed race ever

Sanchez ad rails against bank attack

"If Rick Perry is willing to use a fellow officer's death for his own political advantage, what does that say about his character?"

- Bexar County Sheriff's Sgt. James Hutmacher

Seven days until Election Day....

Excerpt's from last night's (completely fictionalized and gratuitously sanitized) debate between Rick Perry, Tony Sancez, and Jack Cluth:

Tony Sanchez: "I want to win this campaign, but not at the cost of my integrity. Rick Perry, you can attack me all you want, but stop exploiting the tragedy of a fallen law enforcement officer for your political gain."

Rick Perry: "He sided with the drug dealers. That is what this has always been about. He failed the test of leadership. He failed the test of moral responsibility. He had the choice of what to do with money that was identified as drug money that was in his bank. He sided with the drug dealers rather than allowing for some federal court or agency to give him some direction."

Jack Cluth: "Would y'all like some cheese with that whine? How about y'all lighten up a bit??"

So far, I'm up to two confirmed votes (mine and Susan's). Most of the support I've received is from out-of-state, which is great, but doesn't get me any closer to my goal of getting into double-digits (votes, not percentage).

Fundraising continues to be a problem. The donations from my fanatical supporters are not exactly pouring in, and the account balance has yet to rise above $0.00.

The weather continues to play havoc with my scheduled campaign events (Well, it WOULD, if we actually had any scheduled.). If it rains today, that will make 11 straight days, and I might have to abandon my write-in campaign in order to begin building an Ark.

Rumor has it that I'm in line to secure the endorsement of the International League of Orthodox Jewish Left-Handed Gay Rib-Loving Atheists, who are holding their biennial world conference in the back room of a barbecue joint somewhere in the Fourth Ward. Hey, so it's not exactly the AFL-CIO; at least it's a start.

Campaign Slogan Update

Rick Perry: "How about you just let us get on down the road?" (It was on TV, so it must be true, right?, 10.29.02)

Tony Sanchez: "Rick Perry is by far the most disgusting human being I have ever known. Going into this race, I knew he was a man of no substance. I didn't realize just how bad he really is. He is a disgusting human being." (Houston Chronicle, 10.28.02)

Jack Cluth: "To quote the great Orson Welles: 'Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what's for lunch.'" (nowhere in particular, 10.29.02)

I will start publishing our calendar of scheduled public appearances, assuming that we ever actually HAVE any. My campaign event scheduler ran off screaming into the rain last night, and I haven't heard from him since....
