State removes kids disciplined with stun gun

When this story first broke last week, I was sickened that someone could actually justify using a stun gun on a child for ANY reason. Children are not cattle, though I realize that this might come as a shock to those who may never have learned what it means to be a parent. Even if you're unclear on the concept, whatever happened to living by the Golden Rule? Would you want someone to use a stun gun on you? I didn't think so....

ANGLETON -- Four children, including two who were disciplined with an electronic stun gun, were placed in the custody of child welfare workers for one year Tuesday by a Brazoria County court.

The Children's Protective Services asked judge Frank Bass to give the state temporary custody of the children after allegations surfaced last week that the two oldest children, a boy, 8, and his sister, 11, were punished with a stun gun by their stepfather, Theodore E. Moody.

Moody, 27, was indicted on two counts of injury to a child and arrested. He remains in the Brazoria County Jail on $15,000 bail.

The mother of the children, Tsianina Pauline Moody, 27, was charged with two counts of failure to report child abuse. She was arrested and later released after posting a $4,000 bond.

CPS spokeswoman Estella Olguin said if the mother will agree to psychological evaluation and to take counseling and parenting classes, the court will consider ending the temporary custody.

What really makes me sick about this revolting episode is that Mr. Moody genuinely seems to think that his disciplinary method is a reasonable option. Susan and I are of a like mind on this one: if I'd tried the same thing with my teenage stepson, Eric, I'd have 9-iron implanted in my skull- and I'd deserve it.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. While I don't advocate eugenics, I can see the advantages. You need a license to hunt, fish, drive a car, or own a business, but any %^)*@$# moron with working genitalia can have a child. There's something very, very wrong about that.

Theodore Moody ought to be given a taste of his own stun gun. I get first dibs....
