Events overseas added concern for Army players
This Saturday, the University of Houston football team will play a game against Army at West Point, NY. To UH, it's just another game, but for those representing Army, the game, while important, is hardly the top priority. With alumni scattered all over the world fighting the war against terrorism, today's quarterback may well be be tomorrow's platoon leader in a combat zone.
After the events of the past 13 months, many will have more than football on their minds.
"We have them all over -- Afghanistan, the Middle East, the Far East," said Army coach Todd Berry, referring to recent USMA graduates and football players' military duties since 9/11.
Berry isn't permitted to talk about specific players and their military stations, but the inference is easily drawn -- it's more than fun and games on Saturday afternoons.
This reality gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Big Game", eh??
