Sniper suspect Malvo arraigned
Finally, perhaps the residents of the DC/Maryland/Virginia area can breathe a sigh of relief. Thanks to the quick thinking of a private citizen at a rest stop, it appears that the DC sniper has been apprehended. I only hope this is the case.
FREDERICK, Maryland (CNN) -- A Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle was recovered from the vehicle impounded during the overnight arrest of two suspects in the Washington-area sniper case, a law enforcement source told CNN Thursday.
John Lee Malvo, a 17-year-old citizen of Jamaica, was arraigned as a material witness to the shootings in a closed hearing Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, Maryland.
John Allen Muhammad, 41, also known as John Allen Williams, a Gulf War veteran, was also expected to arraigned Thursday at the same courthouse.
All the sniper victims -- 10 dead, three wounded since October 2 -- were hit by a single .223-caliber shot. Washington radio station WTOP reported that a rifle, a scope and a tripod had been recovered from the suspects' vehicle.
A source also told CNN that the car -- a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice -- had been modified with a hole bored in the trunk. The rifle was found behind a seat.
It is difficult to imagine what would drive someone to anonymously murder complete strangers like deer caught in a crosshairs. I do know what punishment I'd like to see meted out to both of these folks, if in fact they are guilty. Blindfold them, tie them to a post in a open field, and then let trained military snipers take shots at them. You don't want to kill them right away, just hit them with a few rounds to make them wonder what's coming next. Then, after making sure they've suffered for at least a few minutes, hit them between the eyes.
Let's just hope these two never end up in my courtroom....
