'Unpredictable' al Qaeda blamed in Bali
There is a growing consensus that al Qaeda was behind the weekend nightclub explosions in Indonesia, and experts say the terror group is becoming more unpredictable and harder to stop.
The US has most largely been successful in removing al-Qaeda's ability to pull off large-scale attacks (e.g.- 9.11). It appears, however, that Osama bin Laden's minions are still more than capable of deadly attacks. Saturday's attacks in Bali are becoming to Australia what 9.11 is to the US, and it didn't take hijacking four airliners to pull it off.
Attacks such as what took place in Bali may well become the hallmark of modern terrorism. Relatively speaking, they're easy to carry out, and can be done without the preparation of 9.11. It's difficult to anticipate this sort of attack, and even more difficult to stop. This may well become the definition of terror, and all the Homeland Security in the world may not be sufficient to stop it.
