A day in the (not-so-sheltered) life

Hi, Kids!! Today's mantra is- repeat after me: F**K DREAMHOST!!! There, now don't you feel better already??

I've been home sick for the past two days, so outside of being tired, nauseated, and unbelievably stuffed up, I'm also cranky as hell. Imagine my delight, then, when I decided to take advantage of my down time to do some writing only to discover that Dreamhost ate my weblog. Well, it wasn't quite that bad, but I couldn't even get to my Movable Type login screen, and if you were trying to leave a comment, well, you were screwed.

After much (figurative) weeping and gnashing of teeth, things seem to be once again in operable condition. Of course, no one from Dreamhost has bothered to get back to me yet about why none of my CGI scripts were among the living, but I'll deal with them later. In the meantime, thanks to Michele Catalano, Stacey Tabb, Brian Kane, and Ben Trott, who, while none of them were able to solve my dilemma, went above and beyond the call in providing shoulders for me to cry on. Muchas gracias a todos!! If you tried to leave a comment earlier today, my apologies, but it looks as if the dog ate it.

My biggest problem with MT-related issues is my lack of technical knowledge. I'm pretty good with the writing end of things, but no one will ever accuse me of being a code geek. I'm trying to learn...like I have the time.

When I write my memoirs, the title is going to be "The Life and Times of a Human Pet Door". We have four cats and a dog, and honestly, I think they all see me as their personal doorman (or doormat- same thing, I suppose). I'll be sitting at the keyboard when I'll hear scratching at the window to my left. Invariably, it will be one of our two psychotic cats- Crabitha or Sakowitz- demanding entry. Both of them can go from 0 to bitch faster than anything else know to Mankind, so I usually cave and let them in. No sooner will I sit back down when I'll hear Salem the wonder dog whining to be let out the back door. So, being the docile sort that I am, I'll get up and let her out. Once again, I'll sit down, and Crabitha is ready to go back out the front door.

By the time I sit down again, Salem is scratching at the back window to come in, and my cat, Einar, is usually there as well. It's a never-ending cycle- in, out, in, out. Of course, I'm such a sucker that I usually just give in and let them in (or out). Yeah; who's got WHO trained here???

Now all I have to do is decide whether or not to buy myself a computer for Christmas. Of course, if I do, that raises a couple more questions: Windows or Macintosh? Laptop or desktop? Hmmm.....
