Ignorance and venality is it's own reward

DeLay climbs ladder to No. 2 House post

Tom DeLay, I'm ashamed to say, is the Congressman from my district. If a more ignorant, venal, and reactionary politician has ever walked the halls of Congress, I don't know who he is. Primarily concerned with maintaining his own position of power, DeLay has over the years created his own little fiefdom in the House of Representatives. Yesterday, he was elected House Majority Leader. I suppose this goes to show that you don't necessarily need to be collegial and self-effacing to be successful in Congress.

The sad thing about DeLay is people re-elect him seemingly without even knowing what it is that he stands for. DeLay is a bigoted, insenstive reactionary who revels in his "Hammer" nickname and reputation for down and dirty politics. Frankly, he makes the late Lee Atwater look like Mother Teresa. And what benefit has that prickly, self-absorbed demeanor brought to his constituents over the years? Wait, I'm still trying to think of something....

It's been said that voters get exactly the quality of representation that they deserve. Honestly, I'm not sure anyone "deserves" Tom DeLay, and yet somehow he keeps getting re-elected. Lucky us....
