'Tis better to be thought a fool....

I found this comment on another weblog (that I won't identify since I do respect the site's creator), and I found it upsetting that I feel the need to address it here. I have always made it a point to try to respect the opinions and sensibilities of other in my writing. Personally, I have a low tolerance for stupidity, but I do my best to curb my baser instincts. THIS, however is beyond the pale:

[S]peaking as a Texan, I am pleading to all the left wing nuts: please stay away. WE DO NOT WANT YOU OR YOUR OVERDONE POLITCAL CORRECTNESS IN TEXAS.

If you feel as I do, please email this moron, and tell him where he can put his smug self-superiority. Speaking for myself, I am a Texan, and I am proud to consider myself a Liberal. If being Conservative means being self-righteous and judgemental, I want no part of your mean-spirited ignorance. By the way, who appointed you arbiter of political purity in this state?

Whether you are a Republican or Democrat, why shouldn't we treat each other with respect? I may disagree with your opinions, but I would never dream of dismissing you as a person. Apparently, for many Conservatives, that respect is not mutual.
