If it wasn't for oil...?

Christmas underscores divide between U.S., Saudi societies

Were it not for oil, Saudi Arabia would hold all the appeal of the Sonoran Desert. Though the government actively discriminates against Christians and routinely denies entrance to Jews, the Saudi have oil. This means we can forgive an awful lot that really should not be forgiven- like the open and covert funding of organization with terrorist ties.

What happens, though, after Iraq is pacified and de-Saddamized? When Saudi Arabia realizes that their pivotal position in the region has been rendered moot? It will be interesting to see if the Saudis will be able to maintain their bigoted, misogynistic house of cards. Will they finally realize that the fabulous wealth that their oil provides also creates responsibilities? Or will they continue to act as if they are the Chosen, oppressing everyone but Muslim men? Stay tuned....
