Houston, because of it's proximity to the US-Mexican border, is joined at the hip to Mexico. NAFTA is not merely an abstract concept in south Texas, due to the vast amount of cross-border traffic that passes through these parts. Here is one Canadian's look at the effect that NAFTA has had on Mexico. For us Anglos, it might be good to pay some attention to what's happening south of the border. Mexico's fate is tied to our own in far more ways than you might realize.
