Students across state to face TAKS-ing day with brand new test

Eric has to take another portion of our brand-spanking-new TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test today. I'm wondering how many of us adults would be able to pass this test? Try this one on:

For Saturday's debate tournament, Sarah ordered three cookies for each student participant and a tray of 30 cookies for the sponsors' hospitality room. This relationship can be expressed by the function f(x) = 3s + 30, where s is the number of student participants. Which is the dependent quantity in this functional relationship?

A) The number of cookies ordered
B) The number of trays ordered
C) The number of student participants
D) The number of sponsors

I have a college degree (OK, I was a History major), and I don't know the answer to this question. I wonder how many of our children will?
