The unintended consequences of war

Brazilian advertiser uses Bush and Saddam to promote war on cockroaches

One man's tragedy is indeed another's opportunity for exploitation.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) - As military conflict rages in Iraq, Brazilian advertisers are using pictures of US President George W. Bush and his arch-foe Saddam Hussein to promote the war on cockroaches.

Hundreds of posters touting the services of an exterminator and showing the two worried-looking presidents appeared at hundreds of bus stops across Rio de Janeiro Wednesday.

The poster showing the Iraqi president bears the words: "You can die of envy Saddam. The world approves of our chemical weapons."

And the one with Bush's likeness says: "Calm down, Mr. president. Our chemical weapons only kill cockroaches."

I wonder if the company would be advertising in this manner if Brazilian troops were dying in Iraq?
