How 'bout dem Gophers, eh??

Gophers repeat as national champions with 5-1 victory over New Hampshire

Gophers triumph again: Minnesota beats UNH 5-1 for second NCAA title in a row

Growing up in Minnesota, there were six things that stood out above all else in the state's sporting pantheon (not necessarily in this order):

  1. Minnesota North Stars

  2. Minnesota Twins

  3. Minnesota Vikings

  4. Opening of fishing season

  5. Opening of deer hunting season

  6. University of Minnesota hockey

Last night, the U's hockey Gophers repeated as NCAA hockey champions by defeating the University of New Hampshire 5-1. The Twins, Vikings, and North Stars may have been perpetual underachievers, but last night's victory was the fifth NCAA championship for the Gophers. It was also the irst time since the 1970 & 1971 seasons (Boston University) that a school has successfully defended their title. They won with class and grace, which is more than can be said for their fans back on the U's campus in Minneapolis.

Rowdy Gophers fans get out of control after hockey victory

Thanks for ruining what should have been a joyous celebration, guys....
