Life begins on Opening Day

Houston Astros 10, Colorado Rockies 4

For at least a few hours last night, I was able to forget about the war, about job-related stress, or anything else. It was Opening Day, and baseball's back in town. I (and 43,240 of my closest friends) watched the Astros dismantle Colorado. The only thing that would have made things better would have been having the roof over Minute Maid Park open. Yes, the lines were long, the food was ridiculously overpriced ($14.25 for a barely edible chicken sandwich, fries, and a Diet Coke), but it was baseball. For at least a few hours on a beautiful April evening, all was right with the world.

Don't be looking for your World Series tickets just yet, but it was a good start. Roy Oswalt did pitch seven strong innings, but the bullpen looked as if it was hell-bent on giving back an eight-run lead, and the defense committed three errors. Not an auspicious start, to be sure, but it was still a "W".
