It's always worked for me

Want to defuse a controversy? Take off your clothes!

When reason won't work, what's left but to get naked? If nothing else, you'll shut them up for a bit- unless you look like me, in which case lunches will be tossed all over America....

You can't hide somewhere until it blows over. You've got a tour to do and you need to deflect the prospect of what could be ugly demonstrations in city after city. Not only that, you have an album on a downward spiral on the charts, and you hope to record more albums.

Something needs to be done. But what?

Appear naked on the cover of Entertainment Weekly....

In the article -- that's right, I read the article too -- the Chicks insist that the naked cover was their idea. I doubt that. I can hear the pitch from the magazine's art director: "Yes, naked. It's a great way to get your side across. People will take you seriously if you're naked."

It's an interesting interview with the trio. They repeated their apology for insulting the office of the president of the United States but pretty much held their ground on the sentiment behind the remarks. Even the tall sisters stood by Natalie's side.

"I feel patriotic and strong," Maines told EW. "We will continue to be who we are. People think this will scare us and shut us up, and it's gonna do the opposite."

Me? Hell, I'd just feel naked. Even worse, I don't think it would sell more magazines. In fact, it might have just the opposite effect. Stores would be paying Entertainment Weekly so they wouldn't have to carry that week's issue. Yep, even naked, no one will ever confuse me for Natalie Maines.
