Texas City boy held after bomb found at his home
When I was a freshman in college, I watched another freshman on my floor make a bomb out of a shotgun shell (yes, I was young and stupid). We put it out on the quad in front of our dorm late one night, and when my friend couldn't figure out how to detonate it, we gave up and went to bed. It was gone the next morning, and we never did find out what happened to his bomb. This incident brought that whole sorry episode back to mind.
TEXAS CITY -- A 16-year-old Texas City boy was being held today after a bomb and bomb-making materials were found in his home, police said.
The youth, whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile, had come under suspicion after the chief of the Texas City school district police reported that the teen had threatened his life, said Bob Circle, chief of the city police department.
Circle said his officers began investigating Tuesday after school district police Chief Derreck Rose reported the threat. Investigators got more information on Wednesday and obtained a warrant to search the teen's home, Circle said.
The boy was detained, Circle said, after a search of the house turned up a fake bomb, a real bomb and materials for making more bombs.
Stoopid is as stoopid does, but if you have access to "The Anarchist Cookbook", you can be stoopid and deadly. How about we just give this kid a job as a Navy Seal and ship him off to the Middle East?
