Restaurant gets 'recycled' rice warning
You know, I thought that rice looked rather strange...and was it supposed to have a chocolate aftertaste??
The Lille Buddha restaurant in Tromsoe has received a sharp warning from the regional Food Control Authority after a former waiter reported the eatery for reusing unfinished servings of rice and drinks, newspaper Nordlys reports.
Jostein Gjerdrum, 19, needed only a short stint as a waiter at the Lille Buddha to convince him to notify authorities.
"We got strict orders from the owner of the restaurant to put the uneaten portions rice bowls into a bowl by the side of the washing-up. Later the rice was put in the microwave and served to the next guest," Gjerdrum told Nordlys.
Gjerdrum also said that guests ordering a cola could receive the remains from various bottles, not even of the same brand. He also saw half-cooked meat being stored in a half-open cardboard box in a stairway behind the kitchen.
Owner Michael Wong has admitted to the frugal rice and cola practices at the Lille Buddha, but not to the questionable meat accusation. Wong said that the restaurant now throws unfinished portions out, and didn't know their previous routine was "so wrong".
"We have also had complaints about this restaurant two or three times earlier. Guests have found sauce traces in the rice and complained because they believed they were getting used rice," Food Control inspector Bjoern Leif Paulsen told Nordlys.
Yes, I know; generally speaking, recycling is a good thing, right?? When it's the daily special, though...yuck....
