When smoking is outlawed, only outlaws will smoke

Smoking banned in Maine taverns

Yes, I know that for some of y'all there are some pronounced civil liberties issues at work here, and I can't say that I would argue with you on that point. For me, however, as it has ever been, this is about public health. Your right to smoke does NOT trump my right to breathe clean air- no matter where I might be. Yes, this is true even if I want to patronize a tavern in Maine. Even the Governor of Maine, John Baldacci, supports this legislation as being good for business. It will also protects those 75% of Maine residents that do not smoke. From where I sit, this is definitely a step in the right direction.
