Bush wants marriage reserved for heterosexuals: 'We ought to codify that'
I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or another. And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that.
- Shrub
Can you say "misplaced priorities"?? The economy is heading south, Americans are still dying in Iraq, North Korea is rattling the nuclear sword, and Shrub is concerned about gay marriage? Given all of the other pressing problems facing this country, how does this nonissue even make it onto the radar screen? Or is it more important for Shrub to convince his well-heeled wingnut Conservative donors of his fealty than to do something that would require demonstrating some honest-to-God leadership?
I'm not going to sit here and expound on the virtues of gay marriage. My support of the concept (or the lack of same) is not an issue, because this whole concept shouldn't be an issue. What I AM saying is that there are so many more pressing issues in need of being addressed by our elected leaders.
Fix the economy, stabilize Iraq, bring the troops home, contain North Korea, etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. THEN perhaps you might reasonably address this "issue". Then again, what are these people guilty of, other than wanting to live their lives in peace while enjoying the same benefits that are available to other segments of society? Or perhaps that IS the crime?
