Hottest day of year hits Houston
Man, it hasn't been this hot since Pappy found out Mammy was spending the beer money. Bush Incontinent Airport reached 104 this afternoon.
Temperatures topped 100 in other parts of the area as well, including airports in Clear Lake and Conroe.
Combined with the suffocating humidity, that heat felt more like 110 degrees, the National Weather Service says.
An excessive heat advisory was extended for most of Southeast Texas through today, and forecasters believe the heat wave could stick around through Saturday. By Sunday, clouds should roll in with possible rain that could pull temperatures to more typical August levels.
Relief tonight will be brief, with temperatures falling only into the upper 70s.
"Relief"?? Yeah, right. What's truly scary about this heat is that there are a large number of people in this area who have no air conditioning. What is normally merely uncomfortable has become seriously life-threatening.
As for me, I think I'll be frying breakfast on the sidewalk tomorrow morning....
