Not quite a DUMASS AWARD wiener, but damn close

'Black' hurricane names brewing swirl of dissent

You can be sure if there were too many 'black' names assigned to hurricanes, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee would instead be complaining that this practice unfairly stereotypes blacks as violent. Let's hope this silly storm blows over!

There's discrimination and actually elected officials wandering around worried about the discrimination in the name of hurricanes. And hurricanes are destructive. You know nobody's very excited when a hurricane's heading their way, and yet here she is demanding that hurricanes be named after black people.

- Rush Limbaugh

Most of us in Houston have long suspected that Sheila Jackson Lee is a major-league dumbass. Yes, she's a Democrat, but she's still a dumbass. Congresswoman Lee is to Houston what Jerry Brown ("Governor Moonbeam") used to be to California. She exists on a plane that only she is capable of comprehending. Now, she seems to be going off the deep end- even for her.

Do devastating hurricanes need help from affirmative action?

A member of Congress apparently thinks so, and is demanding the storms be given names that sound "black."

The congressional newspaper the Hill reported this week that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) feels that the current names are too "lily white," and is seeking to have better representation for names reflecting African-Americans and other ethnic groups.

"All racial groups should be represented," Lee said, according to the Hill. She hoped federal weather officials "would try to be inclusive of African-American names."

Don't get me wrong; I'm all for inclusiveness, but we're talking about hurricanes here, which are primarily famed for their destructive force. Why are we even debating naming storms? American troops are dying in Iraq, the economy is circling the drain, the Social Security system is teetering on bankruptcy, and our civil rights are being eroded in the name of national security. Aren't there a few other things on the horizon just a wee bit more important than what we name is chosen to identify a hurricane?

And while we're at it, can we stop making it so easy for goons like Rush Limbaugh to ridicule Democrats? Because in this case, Congresswoman, you really DO come off as a clueless Liberal. Not even I am going to defend that.
