There's something wrong when you can't even cheat properly

Big 12 should give Baylor the boot

Baylor couldn't even cheat its way to mediocrity.

That by itself says something about the state of this athletic program and the depths to which the proud Bears have sunk.

- John Lopez

The worst aspect of the tragic murder of Patrick Dennehy was obviously Dennehy's death. Coming right behind that, though, is the growing realization of the depths of corruption present in Baylor's athletic department. Generally speaking, cheating is designed to help ensure success in the athletic arena. These guys, though, must be the Baptist equivalent of "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight". One shudders to think how truly, mind-bogglingly awful Baylor's athletic program might have been if they hadn't cheated their way to mere non-competitiveness.

Of course, the Big 12 itself will never be mistaken for a convention of Franciscan monks ("Ethics" and "Division I athletics" are, after all, mutually exclusive concepts). Perhaps it's time for the conference to realize that it is time to save some face and cut Baylor loose. Were they to do that, it might just be the best thing to ever happen to Baylor's athletic program. Freed from the pressures of trying to keep up with Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas, they might just be able to save face themselves and put the athletic program in a position where it can be successful. Nonetheless, the Big 12 needs to take a stand here. This sort of cheating and corruption simply cannot be ignored or condoned.

Not bad for a Southern Baptist school, eh??
