Texas' top-rated professional football team (and no, I'm NOT talking about the Texans or Cowboys here) opened their season last night by annihilating Little Sisters of the Poor- er, New Mexico State (I know, wrong Aggies) 66-7.
The University of Texas campus was awash with rain, excitement and burnt orange for Sunday's season opener against New Mexico State University.
And after a brief scare from the visiting team -- the Aggies scored the first seven points -- the Longhorns stampeded to a 66-7 blowout before an opening-day record crowd of 83,096.
A brief scare? No, a brief scare would be someone losing the batteries to Mack Brown's pacemaker. In this case, the Longhorns were kind enough to spot the Aggies seven points, just enough to delude them into thinking they could actually make a game of it. By halfway through the second quarter, I was feeling sorry for New Mexico State's quarterback, who was running for his very existence. UT began to resemble a Chicago election during the Daley machine- they scored early and often.
So, who's the pasty next week??
