Clueless and built to stay that way

9/11 was supposed to be a wake up call for Americans who had long neglected the world outside their borders, and I’m not talking about vacation hotspots like Jamaica and Cancun. According to a new survey, 7 in 10 Americans continue to believe that Iraq's Saddam Hussein had a role in the attacks. Seven in ten! And that’s even with the Bush administration admitting they have no evidence of Iraq’s involvement – though if they happen to mention 9/11 and Iraq in the same sentence a few dozen times and you want to draw that conclusion, that’s fine too.

To me, this is evidence of an unacceptable level of ignorance in our democracy. Just what will it take to wake us up? Do they have to fly two planes through the Grand Ole Opry?
