Dumb enough to swallow the Big Lie?

How dumb do they think we are?

It was Josef Goebbels' idea to begin with: repeat something often enough, and it eventually becomes the truth. The problem with the Bush Administration is that they've had trouble in even telling the same Big Lie. Of course, if that doesn't work, and it clearly has not, you can always resort to questioning the motives and/or patriotism of those who oppose you.

Sigh. You write an article advocating what you think would be useful, constructive suggestions about Iraq, and you get an avalanche of right-wing reaction about "failure-mongers" and "nattering nabobs of negativism."

Bill Safire is back at the same old stand after all these years, de-nouncing "merchants of dismay" trying to justify their "decade of appeasement."

Great. Anybody who opposed this war in the first place was accused of lack of patriotism, and now anybody who points out that it's not going well is guilty of defeatism.

If you raise your hand and ask, "Where are the weapons of mass destruction that we were told were the reason for this war?," you're instructed to just Get Over It.

Having demonstrated that the Emperor in fact has no clothes, those who oppose the Bush Administration's bungling in Iraq find themselves accused of defeatism. So in other words, anything but blind unswerving support of Our Sainted President and his Anointed Policies is considered un-American?

All I want is for President Bush to enunciate a clear and rational Iraq policy, one that has some solid contingency planning behind it. To date, our Iraq policy has been more reaction than planning. Tell me why I should support what you are doing, and show me a plan for conducting your policy initiatives. Absent that, Iraq will continue to be the same explosive clusterf**k that it has been since the suppose "end of hostilities".
