Stars G Turco skips team meeting (thanks to Chris Schroen!)

$12 Million. Three years. What part of this equation is so f*****g difficult to understand?? Man, you have ONE good season, and all of a sudden you're thinking that you're the Second Coming of Terry Sawchuk.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco, who has been offered a $12 million, three-year contract, was not at the team meeting Thursday night that marked the beginning of training camp.

Turco set a modern NHL record last season with his 1.72 goals against average. He was also an All-Star in his first season as the starter, finishing 31-10-10.

Owner Tom Hicks and general manager Doug Armstrong said the $12 million contract would be the club's final offer to Turco, who made $850,000 last season. The team had initially offered only a $3.5 million deal for this season.

Now, I don't know all the whys and wherefores of Turco's contract negotiations, nor do I particularly want to. Here's what I do know, however: the Stars are offering an almost five-fold increase to Turco. If that happened to you at your job, how long would it take you to scream "HELL, YES!!! WHERE DO I SIGN???" I know that I wouldn't let my boss out of his office until I'd signed the contract, out of fear that he'd change his mind.

Marty Turco is an outstanding young goaltender with a great future in front of him. It's just too bad that he seems to be completely devoid of anything resembling common sense.

Let's just hope that Ron Tugnutt is up to carrying the Stars until Turco wakes up and smells the cat litter.
