Scientists in China have cloned an embryo which contains both rabbit and human DNA. To which I can only add, “Finally!” But it’s not as silly as it sounds – this hybrid could be a source of the stem cells that might hold the cure for paralysis, Alzheimer’s Disease, maybe even Olympic fever. Naturally a spokesman for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is demanding that these embryos be preserved because of their human qualities instead of used to harvest life-saving stem cells. Which makes me wonder: do these people just sit around all day dreaming up new stupid ideas, or do they pay somebody to do that for them?
