Rumsfeld defends general who commented on war, Satan
Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. He's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this.
I am not against the furthering of religion, nor do I begrudge anyone their right to hold religious beliefs. What I find objectionable is a senior US military officer addressing a group while in uniform and pushing his personal religious beliefs while wearing that uniform. If you want to do that sort of thing, do it on your own time- not as a representative of the US Armed Forces.
Appearing in dress uniform before a religious group in Oregon in June, Boykin said Islamic extremists hate the United States "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christians. ... And the enemy is a guy named Satan."....
Discussing a U.S. Army battle against a Muslim warlord in Somalia in 1993, Boykin told one audience, "I knew my god was bigger than his. I knew that my god was a real god and his was an idol."
Who says size doesn't matter, eh?
For his blatant furtherance of his personal religious beliefs while on the US taxpayer's dime, Lt. Gen. Boykin has demonstrated the qualities worthy of a DUMASS AWARD wiener. You should not address a grouop wearing the uniform of your nation's armed forces without remembering that you represent ALL Americans- not just fundamentalist Christians. If Lt. Gen. Boykin wants to pursue this sort of thing on his own time and in civilian dress, I can live with that. While in uniform, though, the General would be well-advised to remember that this is much more than a Christian nation, and that he represents all faiths and creeds. Only an insenstive DUMASS would manage to lose sight of this salient fact.
