A Rocket finale? Maybe, maybe not
There comes a time when all of have to move on. Few of us, though, have the opportunity to put the cherry on top in the way that Roger Clemens did last night. I've never been a fan of the evil, blood-sucking Yankees, but I have always admired Clemens for his dedication and love for the game. Sure, the guy is never going to win any Mr. Congeniality awards, but he has always been a true professional. Clemens pitched seven strong innings, and even though the Yankees lost in extra innings, Clemens went out doing what he has always done so well- keeping his team in the game.
My hat is off to the crowd in Miami and to the Marlins bench, who gave Clemens a standing ovation when he came out of the game after the bottom of the seventh inning. Yes, Clemens was the enemy, but their recognition of his greatness showed a lot of class. Both the Marlins and their fans scored a lot of points last night.
It almost goes without saying that we will not soon see the likes of Roger Clemens. How many people are still throwing a 95 MPH fastball at age 41?
