Why do the voices in my head keep chanting "misplaced priorities"??

In the driver's seat: Now that it's here, newest venue shouldn't be a hard sell to fans

Houston's latest jock-worship cathedral opens today. Over the past four years, the city has opened Enron Field/Your-Name-Here Stadium/Minute Maid Park (Astros), Reliant Stadium (Texans), and now Toyota Center (Rockets and Aeros). Millions of our tax dollars have gone to build palaces to raise our jock worship to new and higher levels. Yes, we may be cutting services and raising taxes, but the hyperglandular men in short pants we so worship will have a brand-new, state of the art workplace in which to practice their trade. Yes, all of these palaces are lovely and aesthetically pleasing, but I can't help but wonder how much good could have been done with all of those millions of tax dollars.
