Another DUMASS AWARD wiener

Educator's eBay Ad Sparks Parent Protest: First-Grade Teacher Offers 'Boy Toy' Services, 'Enjoys Making Kids Cry'

DUMASS AWARD wiener #44: Edward Wu

In a competitive environment, it can be very difficult for schools to find and retain talented teachers. Of course, you might want to check into exactly what a teacher's particular talents are. Something tells me that being a male prostitute who sells his used underwear might NOT be an inidication that an individual possesses the kinds of skills that would come in handy in the classroom. Just a hunch....

HOUSTON -- You can buy just about anything on eBay, but one Internet auction has sparked a protest from parents across the nation.

News2Houston Investigators caught local elementary school teacher Edward Wu selling himself on eBay, offering to be an imaginary pen pal, boy toy or man prostitute. He even offered his used underwear to the highest bidder.

"Yes, I plan to apologize to the staff, to my parents. You know, something like this, really should not have happened," Wu said.

But what disturbed most viewers of the ad, besides the crude offerings, were Wu's hobbies and occupation listed on the ad -- a first-grade teacher who enjoys making kids cry.

"I'm ill. I am livid," parent Prian Melton told News2Houston Investigator Robert Arnold.

The Investigators identified the eBay seller as Wu.

"It makes you feel like you can't trust anybody," parent Kendra Melton said.

Parents of students in La Marque weren't the only people up in arms over the ad; eBay customers across the United States were outraged. Arnold reported that a man in California tipped the News2Houston Investigators off about the online auction.

"I don't think that this represents who I am in the classroom," Wu said. "You ask my principal and my other teachers and they will tell you that I am a complete professional in the classroom."

Wu maintained the auction was nothing more than a joke and that it shouldn't be taken seriously.

However, parents aren't laughing at the ad.

Strangely enough, parents tend to be utterly devoid of a sense of humor when it comes to this sort of thing. Yes, among his many talents, Wu can honestly include being a complete and total DUMASS. Congratulations, Ed; you are truly deserving of your DUMASS AWARD. Let's see you try to sell THAT on eBay.
