Bush signs anti-spam bill (via Fark)
Spam, or unsolicited e-mails, are annoying to consumers and costly to our economy. This will help address the problems associated with the rapid growth and abuse of spam by establishing a framework of technological, administrative civil and criminal tools, and by providing consumers with options to reduce the volume of unwanted e-mail.
- White House spokesman Scott McClellan
A great idea, to be certain, but there is one thing I don't quite understand. How will this law keep some troglodyte in Ukraine, who routes his spam through servers in three different countries with no extradition treaties, from sharing his abundance with the rest of the free world? Spam, like the Internet, knows and respects no borders.
[T]he measure outlaws the persistent techniques used by e-mailers who send tens of millions of messages each day to peddle their products and services.
Good stuff. Now just how in the hell do y'all plan on enforcing this??
