It takes a brave man to face down the Devil

An interview with Richard Morrison

I had the chance recently to sit down with Richard Morrison, who will be running against Tom DeLay in the 22nd Congressional District if the old map remains in place. I have a good feeling about him as a person and as a candidate, and I believe that if he can get sufficient funding, he can mount a decent challenge to DeLay. If after reading this interview you feel the same way and would like to help support such a challenge, you can click here to make a donation to Richard's campaign.

- Chuck Kuffner

A brave warrior for the cause or a sacrificial lamb? IS Richard Morrison simply falling on his sword for the greater good of the Democratic Party, or does he have a serious chance of defeating Tom DeLay in November? Well, that depends on where you happen to sit on the political spectrum.

In his first inaugural address, Thomas Jefferson said that the “sum of good government” was: “a wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.”

To me that means Government should stop people from hurting each other, but other than that it needs to stay out of people’s way.

I am running to be District 22’s representative in the US Congress. The first step in the process is winning the Democratic nomination in the primary.

I am running because I do not believe that Tom DeLay’s continued presence in Congress adds to the “sum of good government” as defined by Jefferson.

I do not believe that Tom DeLay is serving the best interests of District 22, our children, our community, our places of worship, our businesses or our future. I believe that he has strayed from the values that we cherish.

As a citizen I believe our district needs to be the number one priority of its congressman.

We need a congressman who wants to do what’s right for his neighbors in the district, not what’s right for the powerful special interests.

The number of new jobs in this district should be Tom DeLay’s first priority, not the number of Republicans in Congress.

Increasing the number of children with health insurance in this district should be Tom DeLay’s first concern, not increasing the number of contributors to his campaign.

Chuck Kuffner sat down with Morrison, and the man has some interesting things to say. Frankly, though, I'd vote for an iguana if it were running against DeLay, who as far as I am concerned is Evil Incarnate. Thankfully, Morrison is a huge improvement over an iguana. He's intelligent, well-spoken, and seems a thoughtful sort. I wish him well, and you can bet that I will be using my bully pulpit to rally the troops for Morrison.

Good luck, man....

Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I shall fear no evil, for I am already running against the Devil His Own Self....
