OK, so most golfers are single-minded sorts. Most of us would play through bomb threats or a terrorist attack if given the opportunity, but a clubhouse burning down would be a real tragedy. Where would you get a beer at the turn??
The clubhouse at Kingwood Cove Country Club was gutted by fire early this morning, officials said.
Houston police were called to the club in the 800 block of Hamblen Road just before 5 a.m. by a burglar alarm at the facility. Officers who found the clubhouse in flames quickly alerted Houston firefighters.
The fire was brought under control quickly, but the building sustained heavy damage, officials said.
No one was in the building, and the fire resulted in no injuries.
The cause of the blaze, called suspicious by firefighters, is under investigation.
Of course, I seriously doubt any of the golfers who already had tee times had second thoughts about teeing off, even as firefighters were trying to douse the blaze in the clubhouse. Just as long as the beer cart girl showed up every couple of holes, who cares??
