Man says he’s addicted to cable; wants to sue Charter

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #53: Timothy Dumouchel

Even though we consider our services to be a very powerful entertainment product, I don’t think it’s reached a medical level yet where it could be proved to be addictive. In our society, any kind of legal action shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

- John Miller

It is so difficult to be a good person these days, especially when there are SO many outside forces conspiring against you. Now comes the sad story of a man and his family who were in the evil clutches of their cable yor nigh on four years. How they survived the torture and the trauma unscathed is a story for the ages (just not this one).

Cable TV made a West Bend man addicted to TV, caused his wife to be overweight and his kids to be lazy, he says....

Timothy Dumouchel of West Bend wants $5,000 or three computers, and a lifetime supply of free Internet service from Charter Communications to settle what he says will be a small claims suit.

Dumouchel blames Charter for his TV addiction, his wife’s 50-pound weight gain and his children’s being “lazy channel surfers,” according to a Fond du Lac police report....

According to the report, Dumouchel told Charter employees he plans to sue because his cable connection remained intact four years after he tried to get it canceled.

The result was that he and his family got free cable from August of 1999 to Dec. 23, 2003.

Uh...and the Dumouchel family TV is for some reason NOT equipped with an ON/OFF button? Or were they so far gone that they couldn't rouse themselves from their torpor to turn the damn thing off??

I believe that the reason I smoke and drink every day and my wife is overweight is because we watched TV every day for the last four years,” Dumouchel stated in a written complaint against the company, included in a Fond du Lac police report.

“But the reason I am suing Charter is they did not let me make a decision as to what was best for myself and my family and (they have been) keeping cable (coming) into my home for four years after I asked them to turn it off.”

No, I believe the reason that you smoke and drink every day, AND the reason your wife is fat is because you're a lazy DUMB@$$ who is clearly too stupid to take responsibility for his own personal shortcomings, which appear to be legion.

Ah, well, if McDonalds can be sued for making coffee that is too hot, what the hell? It sure beats having to take responsibility for your own sloth and immaturity, eh?

From where I sit, there are not words available to sufficiently describe the contempt in which I hold maroons like this. If there is any justice, the cable company, their attorney, and, if this travesty makes it into a court of law, any judge with half a braiin will laugh Mr. Dumoucel out of their sight.

Here' a tip for you and your family, Mr Dumouchel: how about taking responsibility for your own shortcomings and bad habits? If you showed as much effort is changing your slothful habits as you have in creating your 15 minutes of infamy, you'd be smoke-free, your wife would be thin, and your television would still be in the basement. Of course, if you had followed that simple prescription, you wouldn't be the world-class DUMB@$$ that you clearly are, would you??
