Remap bolsters GOP power play: Plan adds numbers and clout while blocking off Dem comeback
The Democrats are in a lot worse shape than the Republicans were. At least the Republicans had a philosophy and a direction that they wanted to take the state.
- Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX)
Sure, the Democratic Party has a tough road to travel over the past 9 1/2 months on the national level. That is NOTHING compared to the uphill struggle faced by the Texas Democratic Party.
Not all that long ago, Democrats held the same stranglehold over Texas politics that Republicans hold now. As much as I detest Tom DeLay and everything he stands for, in this case he is right. Texas Democrats are devoid of anything resembling a plan to make a comeback. It seems the Party is willing to accept the role of Lovable Loser, the Loyal Opposition that kibitzes and bitches but never offers any concrete workable alternatives. We should be able to do better.
The Texas Democratic Party is fiddling while Texas burns, and in the end all they are really doing is allowing Republicans to pour gasoline on the fire. It's time for Party leadership, and Texas Democrats in general, to plot our way back. How long must we wander in the political wilderness?
