Crisis? Try being a single mother who has no money to feed her baby....

Parties may be BYOC: City's supplies of Cristal champagne run dry

With the Super Bowl coming to town, the amount of money being thrown around is at almost incomprehensible levels, and it's created our first city-wide crisis. There is nary a bottle of Cristal champagne to be had anywhere in the Greater Houston area. So what's a self-respecting rapper supposed to do?

Big ballers and shot callers headed to Houston might want to pack a few extra bottles of Cristal, the champagne of choice for the hip hoperati.

Rappers and athletes planning gatherings in Houston for the Super Bowl have cleared local distributors' shelves of the classy bubbly, which sells for $150 to $600 or more per bottle.

By Tuesday afternoon, clerks at Spec's, Houston's largest liquor seller, say they had sold out because of orders from party planners. Bars downtown had begun ordering from distributors in Austin and in Louisiana in hopes of stocking up before next week.

Amir Alani, a part owner of Live Sports Cafe on Main, said Cristal is the only drink in such short supply now.

"It is the drink that is so popular with rappers," Alani said. "You can't find it anywhere. We are going far to make sure we don't run out."

The situation could be a crisis in the making, with Jay-Z, P. Diddy and Snoop Dogg in town at the same time, all of them hosting parties.

Um, no, a crisis would be something along the lines of not having enough money to pay the mortgage or feed your family. Running out of expensive champagne? Hell, that hardly rates as a inconvenience. Would it kill you to drink domestic?? I'm supposed to feel sorry for spoiled, uneducated "artists" because they don't have their preferred brand of bubbly? Cry me a freakin' river....

BTW, y'all, our "guest room" is still available for Super Bowl week. Yes, for a mere $30k, you too can live in the lap of luxury in the TPRS "Trailer Of Love". Call now; operators are standing by....
