I had no idea that the whining of New Yorkers could be so melodious

New Yorkers slam Clemens for joining Astros

For new Astro Clemens, Pettitte's signing 'changed everything'

He may be Houston's hero, but to New Yorkers...

Gleeful fans clog ticket phone lines

Man, judging by the reactions coming out of New York, you'd think that Roger Clemens was a child molester or was running over old ladies in one of his Hummers. Come on, y'all; the guy's a free agent. Doesn't that mean he has the right to play wherever he chooses? Besides, how many athletes have retired and then later changed their mind? (See "Jordan, Michael") Clemens is hardly the first to travel this road.

From where I sit, Astros fans have suffered through barely-above-mediocrity long enough. This is, after all, a franchise that has never won a playoff series, and indeed has won all of eight playoff GAMES since it's birth in 1962.

Enough with the sour grapes. How about you Yankees fans enjoy the kajillion-dollar payroll you still have and allow Astros fans to enjoy their windfall? It's not as if you haven't been on top for quite a while, and you'll probably still be able to buy playoff tickets in October. Kwitcherbitchin, willya??
