In a perfect world...well, it would be a perfect world

Gee, if everyone could just see their way clear to think like I do....

As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls.

- M. Cartmill

Yesterday, I ranted about the generally sorry state of political discourse in this country. This was one man's take on the situation, and, generally speaking, most people seemed to take it for what it's worth. I have no illusions of changing the world in this respect- I have neither the money, the influence, nor the exposure to do so. The relatively small number of people who drop by TPRS every day probably aren't going to tilt the balance of civility (or lack thereof) in the political arena.

The problems of which I speak are neither new, nor are they merely a Liberal or Conservative phenomenon. People of all political stripes have been guilty of going above and beyond the issues and descending into the realm of insult and character assassination. Lord knows I have. It's not something I'm proud of, but there you have it. To the reader who was kind enough to point out my apparent inconsistencies on this matter, I would only say thank you, Master of the Obvious. I am quite aware of my own shortcomings and inconsistencies. Can you say the same thing?

In the past, I have not always followed my own beliefs in this matter. I will try to do better, and if one person out there does the same, then I will have made a difference. If not, I'll just have to break another promise and go back to posting severed-penis stories. Your choice, y'all.... ;0)
