Here's a question for those of you with intellects more nimble than my own: what, exactly, makes for an "influential blog"?? I just happened to find out a couple days ago that TPRS is listed on Blogstreet's "Top 300 Most Influential Blogs". I'm flattered, to be certain, because TPRS is listed at #279 out of 145,212 webogs.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to sit here and minimize what I do, because I am proud of my writing and what I've done over the last 2 1/2 years. Still, what is it that makes TPRS "better" or "more influential" that more than 145,000 other weblogs? In the end, I suppose, the answer is immaterial, because most of my reasons for keeping TPRS up and running are purely selfish. I love to write, I think I'm good at it, and until I get a paid gig (Hey, if Andrew Sullivan can do it...), this is how I keep my hand in the game. Besides, some folks seem genuinely interested in my rants. Whodathunkit, eh??
It is nice to be recognized, and I'm certainly not going to do the "aw, shucks..." routine. I will be honest in saying that I am not in it for the awards. I'm just glad that I have an audience that extends beyond my immediately family (who recognize me as the crackpot I probably am). Besides, it's good to be able to vent, and this IS cheaper and more fun than therapy.
