I'll take this seriously when they start bleating about the real problem

The Jackson stunt: What now? Super Bowl flashing may encourage crackdown.

This particular event might be, for the moment, the straw that broke the camel's back on the patience of the audience. Tolerance of this sort of sexual imagery may have reached its peak.

- Carson Daly

Oh no!! Naked female breasts!! What about the children!! However will we protect our impressionable young 'uns? No problem; just park them in front of a few "Law & Order" or "CSI" episodes. All you have their is violence and gore- and that's ALWAYS preferable, no??

The Jackson case could have a "galvanizing effect" on the move to toughen standards, said FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, who has complained his commission has been toothless in responding to complaints.

At the very least, he said, it punctures the argument of people who say that those who are bothered by things on TV just shouldn't watch.

"How do you turn off the Super Bowl?" Copps asked.

"There is going to be a national conversation on this," said Brent Bozell, president of the Parents Television Council....

Right; there may be a national conversation on this, but it will completely miss the point. When will lose the faux righteous indignation long enough to realize the hypocrisy involved here? The true issue here is not an exposed breast. There is nothing obscene or pornographic about the human body. What IS truly obscene, however, is out tolerance for and acceptance of the current level of violence on television. I would submit that the portrayal of violence on television is a far more serious and insidious problem than an exposed breast- and yet we are collectively pounding our chests over the sinfulness of it all.

Get over yourselves, willya??
