OK, so who's the DUMB@$$ now?? Well, apparently that would be me. I'll spare you all the gory details, but the short version of the problems with my laptop comes down to me trying to boot it with a disk still in the A drive. So, in the spirit of recognizing and celebrating stupidity wherever it is found, here it is:
As it turns out, yes, there was a disk in the A drive, and after working a couple of 12+ hour days, I was just too tired to do the trouble-shooting that would have resolved the whole problem in about three seconds. So now my reputation as a DUMB@$$ is secure with my two stepsons, and I would have to say deservedly so. Blessed are those of us who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused....
The good news is that my laptop works just fine. Apparently I'm the one with the malfunction. Of course, it this is the worst f***-up I can be convicted of, I'm a lucky guy.
Way back when, I actually did customer support and hardware installations for a software firm in Portland. (I know- what the Hell were THEY thinking??). I was so proud of myself when I taught myself some rudimentary FORTRAN. I wrote a six- or seven-line program that calculated simple interest. That was the beginning and (mercifully) the end of my coding career. Oh, I can handle basic HTML, and in fact TPRS was completely hand-coded for almost a year (It was ugly, inefficient, and it was built to stay that way.).

I would love to be competent and knowledgeable enough to be able to code, maintain, and design my own site. The reality is that I don't have the time to learn all of this stuff. Even when I DO have the time, I don't have the energy, and I would rather spend that time with my family. So, I will continue to be my technologically-challenged, graphically-impaired, non-codehead self, because all I REALLY want to do is write.
Say hello to your latest DUMB@$$, y'all. I'll try to do my best to demonstrate my worthiness...or have I already done that?? ;0)
