Mommy, what is that woman doing on her knees?

XXX-DVDs a new hazard for drivers

Now here's a new risk I'd never even thought about before. You're driving home from the day-care center, 4-year-old Melissa and 2-year-old Johnny strapped securely into their car seats. All is well with the world- or at least it is until little Melissa looks over at the Escalade in the next lane. There, clearly visible on the Escalade's video screen, is a X-rated movie. Now you're faced with having to explain something that you know your children aren't yet equipped to process.

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- Andrea Carlton hadn't planned on telling her daughter about the birds and bees until she was 8 or 9. But that changed the night 4-year-old Catherine spotted a porno movie flickering on a screen in a minivan nearby.

"Just like there's no windows in a strip club, you shouldn't be able to see inside windows in a car when they're watching X-rated movies," said Carlton, a 26-year-old from Gurnee, Illinois.

More and more Americans are buying vehicles with DVD players, usually to keep the kids entertained. But an increasing number of other people on the road are catching a glimpse through the windows of more than just "Finding Nemo" and "SpongeBob SquarePants."

On one level, this is kinda sorta funny, being able to see someone doing the nasty at 55 MPH. If you're a parent faced with this situation, though, there is nothing funny about it. The problem is that many jurisdictions have no laws dealing with this sort of public display, so prosecuting those who play X-rated movies in an automobile can be be difficult at best. This will change as time goes by, of course, but for now parents have yet another risk that they'll want to be protecting their children from. As if being a parent wasn't already difficult enough....
